Chteau Climens, owned by the Lurton family since 1971, is arguably one of the greatest sweet wines in the world. Its vineyard extends over 30 hectares planted with Semillon. Its soil consists of fine gravel and red sands resting on a limestone base. The average age of the vines is around 35 years with an annual renewal of around 3 to 4%. The yield remains one of the lowest in the appellation in order to obtain a unique concentration. The pickers carefully choose the grapes sufficiently rich in botrytis cinerea (the famous noble rot of Sauternes). After fermentation in oak barrels, the wine is aged for two years before being bottled. Chteau Climens stands out with its power and smoothness, developing intense aromas of citrus and exotic fruits. A very great sweet wine with an aging potential of several decades in great vintages.
